Nomination of Mr. Alberto Velasquez for San Diego Convention Center Corporation Board of Directors

SUBJECT: Nomination of Mr. Alberto Velasquez for San Diego Convention Center Corporation Board of Directors (Print Memo)

It is my pleasure to nominate Mr. Alberto Velasquez for appointment as a member of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation Board of Directors.

Mr. Velasquez has served as a Senior Policy Advisor for Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas since 2014. In that capacity, he provides valuable guidance and expertise on issues including economic development, infrastructure, transportation, the environment and binational affairs.

Prior to joining the Mayor’s staff, Albert was a District Field Representative and Policy Advisor for State Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, serving the communities of San Diego, Chula Vista and National City. Along with providing assistance to residents, he worked on issues pertaining to health care, education, the state budget, transportation, the environment and the border.

Mr. Velasquez is a life-long resident of South San Diego and has been active in the community as Immediate Past Chair of the Otay Mesa/Nestor Planning Group. He also served as the District Eight representative for the City of San Diego’s former Qualcomm Stadium Advisory Board, providing recommendation on matters relating to the operations of Qualcomm Stadium.

Mr. Velasquez is currently a Board Member of the San Diego Leadership Alliance, a non-profit formed to develop San Diego’s progressive leadership. He is a graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with an emphasis on Political Theory and was named the most outstanding student of political theory of his graduating class.
