SUBJECT: Nomination of Mr. Alberto Vasquez for Commission on Gang Intervention and Prevention (Print Memo)

It is my pleasure to nominate Mr. Alberto Vasquez for reappointment as a member of the City of San Diego’s Commission on Gang Intervention and Prevention.

Mr. Vasquez was raised in Logan Heights in District 8 and once a high school dropout, he has overcome homelessness, incarceration and addiction and managed to change the trajectory of his life. He has a master’s degree in Biology from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) and is currently employed with the Center for Research on Educational Equity, Assessment and Teaching Excellence (CREATE) at UCSD where he spearheads UCSD’s efforts to increase STEM diversity, engagement, and access to disenfranchised communities throughout the region.

Mr. Vasquez has worked in the non-profit sector, local government, and higher education; and has been instrumental in successfully implementing programs supporting underserved communities, disenfranchised populations, and students of color.
