Protecting Mission Bay Water Quality

I’ve been a strong supporter of the “Wildest” alternative plan for the De Anza Cove Revitalization Project in Mission Bay. Sea levels are continuing to rise which means the existing Kendall Frost March will eventually be wiped out. If we don’t secure new land for the wetland habitat, the water quality of Mission Bay will go from bad to terrible.

The First Climate Equity Fund

As part of the discussion over the electric and gas franchise agreements, I created the first Climate Equity Fund which dedicates a portion of franchise fee revenue to projects that help communities mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Holding Businesses That Pollute Financially Responsible

As chair of the Audit Committee, I pushed forward the Audit of the Industrial Wastewater Control Program, which found that the fees for this program had not been raised since 1984, causing residential customers to pay to cover the cost for businesses that pollute. As a result of this audit, fees will be increased to their proper level.
