As your Councilmember, I continue advocating for equitable, accessible, and high-quality parks for residents. That’s why I’m glad to inform you that in 2021 we completed the construction of two mini parks including, Gamma Street and J Street Mini Park. Island Ave mini park is still under construction and will be opening soon! These mini parks provide much needed green space and amenities in our communities. I will continue to fight for funding for more parks in District 8.
J Street Mini Park
This project provides for ADA improvements. The 11,835 square-foot mini park, known as J Street Mini Park, has undergone more than $1.5 million in renovations including new landscaping, irrigation and accessibility improvements.
J Street Mini Park Amenities
- Children’s play structure
- Safety surfacing
- Path of travel
- New security lighting
- Picnic areas and benches
- Fitness equipment
- Drinking fountain
J Street Mini Park Funding
My office included funding requests for upgrades to the J Street Mini-Park in our Fiscal Year 2021 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) priority memo last year and I am delighted to see it come to fruition. Thank you to our diligent City workers for the efforts on upgrading this park.
The project was funded by the $1.3 million Community Development Block Grant as well as the Southeastern San Diego Urban Communities fund and EDCO Community Fund. Ramona Paving & Construction began construction of the project in August 2020.
